Spiderman

The script and development of the film spiderman came up to $10million, 5% of it was the script. Davide Koepp got an eghit figure on payday from making of the film. There were 4 fresh writers that also helped, including Pulitz er prize winning novelist Micheal Chabon. The licening cost $20million, Marvel owns the spiderman characters and since 1999 there has been bickering and the price has been going up even further. The co-creater Stan Lee got paid £1million but Lee has threatened to sue for the share of profits from licening.

Every week the producer and director are paid the traditional wage for the lenght of  the shoots. Its called 'above the line' costs that there admited to pay before they start rolling. Producers get $15million spiderman 2 had one co-prodcuer and three executive producers. The director gets $10million, directors are usually brought on after the casting and if the audience dislike the scene the director has to cut or reshoot parts. The chairwomen hirred evil dead director Sam Raini, who wasnt well know to keep costs down.

Cast cost $30million Tobey Maguire landed the title and got $4million which changed to $17million for the sequal. Kirstin Dunst was paid $5-$6million for spiderman 2. Alfred Molina would be paid in the region of $1million, the rest of the cast would get about $3million. Agents and managers go home with 10-15% of their clients payday. Below the line cost $45million is the physical production including crew fees. photographying took up to 3 weeks relocating to get the right shoots.

Special effects cost $65million and music cost $5million, effects is one of the big blockbusters spenders and is growing fast, but music is no more than 2% of their budget and Danny Elfman composed the music and got a fee of near $2million. Prints and advertising came up to $75million, advertising costs are not actually included in the production budget, spending $200million on making the film even more money will be spent on marketing it.

Kick Ass

The main characters featured in Kick Ass were Aaron Johnson, Nicolas Cage, Christopher Mintz-Plasses and Mark Strong, it was directed by Matthew Vaughn and the film was releases on April 16 2010, the generation of the film is 1hour and 53minutes long.

This film is a superhero comedy film which is based on the comic of Marvel Comic's the chief writer Mark Millar who was the executive directer to the film 'Wanted' which starred Angelina Jolie and took $350m at the box office because she was starred as she is a big actresses. There was a lot of hard work put into the film Kick Ass as it took 14 weeks and 14hours everyday for casting, drafting the script, the sets, the costumes and the filming. There was a massive different between the movie Kick Ass and the comic book Kick Ass, in the film its a happy ending as he gets the girl after telling her everything but in the the comic when he tells her she wants nothing to do with him and tells him to 'fuck off'.

A lot of the scenes in the film are not what they seem and catch your eye which convinces you its realistic. They used hugged green screens for the fighting scenes which caused a lot of trouble on set at Elstree studios. Special effects like motion tools which were used so you could track the background and features called speactramatte which allows to you change the keys with such fine detail, which makes it so realistic. He trys to get the highest quilty of sound so they dont have to do it again and so it will sound the same for next time. It was inportant they got a interesting soundscape to cut through out the film. The wide-range sounds track was also a changelle to keep consistency mainting the material through a range from elvis to prodigy.

The film was given a R-rating which wasnt good when the film was amied at 14year old boys but some how after realsing the tralier for the movie it got everyones attention, also by marketing Kick Ass as posters like all films do and indivigual ones of the characters which were realsed to allow the audience to get to know each hero and what their like. The film in the end made $37million world-wide by the us opening weekend they did which made its budget back straight away. The film did well but not as well as some people thought it would do, as they didnt make any extra money on top of the budget.

The music used in the film was composed by John Murphy, Henry Jackman, Marius De Vreid and Iian Eshkeri, but Murphy's music stands out the most as it sounds from his two films '28 days later' and 'Sunshine'. Using the same music again doesnt always get everyones attention but his choice was relatively obscure and a nice treat for movie buff. They used it at the early stages in the making of the film as it was a temporary measure. It is hard to use some music as it might not fit in well with the scene thats why he used re-use music as it fitted better.

Narrated by Dave Lizewski, this story is about himself as a New York teenager and buying a costume and dressing up as a hero as he wants to be noticed and fight crime. At the begining there is nothing special about him he is an average person wanting to be a hero and help average people like himself make it safer on the streets, he makes a name for himself 'Kick Ass' and slowly becomes a big hit with the public. Before he even became a super hero and well known there were two other hero's called Big Daddy and Hit Girl who are played by  Nicolas Cage and Chloe Mortez who are a father and daughter fighting crime and trying to work their selfs up to kill Frank D'Amico as he played a part in killing Big Daddys wife whilst he was in prison for something Frank D'Amico did. Franks son Chris becomes a part of the hero's 'Red Mist' as he wants to part of his dads company and get involved but he doesnt understand the actually reason he is wanting to kill these hero's, but when it is shown in front of the whole nation the final show down of Kick Ass.

Moon

The film ‘moon’ is a British science-fiction drama directed by Duncan jones in 2009. The film was produced by Trudie Snyder who also has films like snatch and lock stock and liberty films. Stage 6 films was the studio who was responsible for making the project straight to DVD, which cost less than $10m dollars. Sonny pictures had the right to release the film and proceed with it.
The budget was $5m. He took stages to minimise the cost of the film by keeping cast small by using Sam Rockwell who played Sam Bell and filming in a studio. The film ‘moon’ was produced at shepperton studios, London, England, where it was filmed in 33days. He preferred to use models instead of digital animation. He worked with Bill Pearson and supervised model maker on ‘alien’ to help him design the ‘lunar rover’ and other parts to his film. The base was a full 360-degree set, being 85–90 feet long and approximately 70 feet wide. The robot films were designed to bound overhead rail within the mining base since its mechanical tether was critical to the story’s plot. The visual effects were made by Cinesite, which has sought cut price deals. Jones past experience created special effects within a small budget. Creating the ping pong scene he had Rockwell mime to the sound being played, then using CGI adding the ball. The budget was so tight that Sony refused to send copies to the Oscar panel judges, they wanted to avoid the film being pirated and knew it would cost too much. Kevin Spacey waited until the film was done to add his voice as the character Gerty as he knew they budget of the film.
All sales are handled by the independent sales company for the film moon. Sony worldwide acquisitions group enabled the rights for the English-speaking territories; they consider making the film moon straight to video releases. But the film premiered in 2009 at Sundance film festival in January 2009, Sony pictures classics decided to handle the films release for Sony pictures worldwide acquisitions group. They also distributed the film in cinemas in the United States and began to screen it in selected cinemas in New York and Los Angeles in 12 June. The premier in Britain was held on the 20th of June 2009 at Cameo cinema in Edinburgh, at the international film festival as part of the 63rd Edinburgh. Jones was presented at the screening of the film with the main crew members. The UK release was on the 17th of July and the Australian was released on the 8th of October. Moon took $1,813,302 in the UK for a total of $9,747,108 at the box office and worldwide came to $4,736,945. Despite of all this jones stated “ The business sides crazy and the film was out in Germany now, Switzerland, and also other smaller territories it has to be released in. it earned $9.5M worldwide do far and it only cost $5m to make but they are still having to pay back the investors of the film. It was the biggest priority to him and the most frustrating part about the apparent success. In film school they don’t tell you that if you make back everything you spent on a film you are still not half way to making a profit.

ethnicity

Ethnicity[1]

Audience & Institution

  • The issues raised in the targeting to national and local audiences (specifically, British) by international or global institutions.
  • The way in which the candidates' own experiences of media consumption illustate wider pattern and trends of audience behaviour.
Blumer 4 stages:

First- came from everywhere- not true, have target audience
Second- go cinema on your own- not true, go with friends
Third- dont talk to each other- not true, always talk after a film
Fourth-

Uses and gratifications:

Highly active audience making use of the media for a range of purposes designed to satisfy needs such as entertainment, information and identification. The psychological basis for this model is the hierarchy of needs identified by Maslow.

The main areas that are identified in this model are:
a) the need for information about our georgraphical and social world news and drama
b) the need for identity, by using characters and personalities to define our sense of self and social behaviour film celebritie
c) the need for social interaction through experiencing the relationships and interaction of others
d) the need for diversion by using the media for purpose of play and entertainment

Task 1:
1) Not every type of person watches the same film, everyone is very different and certian people like different films, this is why producers make traliers to give the audience a inside to the film there going to watch and they can decide on if they like it or not.
2) When you watch a film on your own you dont get the whole media experiance as you have no one to talk to about it after watching it and cant let out your feelings of the film, but if your with a group of people you can say what you liked and disliked and compare on each others views of the film which brings more and more people together as its more exciting.
3) You experiance media by watching the effects and the charaters used in the film as well as listening to get the full effect of whats going on, this gives the audience the feel of being there and a large feeling of how they would feel when their in that persons place.
4) When experianing a film without friends you normally put how you feel about the film over facebook and interract with people that way so everyone can see it and gives them a bit of inside to how the film is, also texting friends to let them know how it was as they might wanna go watch it themselves so they can tell them if its any good or not, or if they ant to keen on it they might think its more someones type of film and tell them to watch it as they would enjoy it.

Task 2:
McQuail and Katz both worked in commuication which was part of there media range.
