Audience & Institution

  • The issues raised in the targeting to national and local audiences (specifically, British) by international or global institutions.
  • The way in which the candidates' own experiences of media consumption illustate wider pattern and trends of audience behaviour.
Blumer 4 stages:

First- came from everywhere- not true, have target audience
Second- go cinema on your own- not true, go with friends
Third- dont talk to each other- not true, always talk after a film
Fourth-

Uses and gratifications:

Highly active audience making use of the media for a range of purposes designed to satisfy needs such as entertainment, information and identification. The psychological basis for this model is the hierarchy of needs identified by Maslow.

The main areas that are identified in this model are:
a) the need for information about our georgraphical and social world news and drama
b) the need for identity, by using characters and personalities to define our sense of self and social behaviour film celebritie
c) the need for social interaction through experiencing the relationships and interaction of others
d) the need for diversion by using the media for purpose of play and entertainment

Task 1:
1) Not every type of person watches the same film, everyone is very different and certian people like different films, this is why producers make traliers to give the audience a inside to the film there going to watch and they can decide on if they like it or not.
2) When you watch a film on your own you dont get the whole media experiance as you have no one to talk to about it after watching it and cant let out your feelings of the film, but if your with a group of people you can say what you liked and disliked and compare on each others views of the film which brings more and more people together as its more exciting.
3) You experiance media by watching the effects and the charaters used in the film as well as listening to get the full effect of whats going on, this gives the audience the feel of being there and a large feeling of how they would feel when their in that persons place.
4) When experianing a film without friends you normally put how you feel about the film over facebook and interract with people that way so everyone can see it and gives them a bit of inside to how the film is, also texting friends to let them know how it was as they might wanna go watch it themselves so they can tell them if its any good or not, or if they ant to keen on it they might think its more someones type of film and tell them to watch it as they would enjoy it.

Task 2:
McQuail and Katz both worked in commuication which was part of there media range.
